Meet the partners of the CIVITEC project!

We’re starting with our lead partner — Eleftherios Loizou from the Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL), Cyprus 🇨🇾

Who they are and what they do

The Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL) was established by the municipalities of the capital of Cyprus — Nicosia. Its main goal is to support its member municipalities in developing and implementing strategic development plans. ANEL works in the field of sustainable local development, implementing initiatives in all areas of municipal competence — from urbanism to innovation and public participation. An important advantage of the agency is its extensive experience in preparing and implementing interregional projects within EU programs.

Why ANEL joined CIVITEC and what it brings to the partnership

One of the agency’s members — the Latsia-Geri Municipality (formed in July 2024 as a result of local self-government reform in Cyprus) — is currently actively implementing digital transformation and seeking new ways to involve citizens in decision-making processes. Building a culture of public participation remains a challenge, so ANEL aims to test modern Civic Tech tools that will help more actively involve residents in community development.

Within the CIVITEC project, ANEL shares its experience in coordinating international partnerships and effective project management, which ensures the smooth implementation of the initiative and the achievement of its goals.

What the partners aim to gain

Participation in CIVITEC will allow ANEL to improve the Integrated Spatial Development Strategy for the Latsia-Geri Municipality, using the experience and solutions from more developed partner regions. The acquired knowledge and practices will also be shared among the agency’s other member municipalities, helping to strengthen local governance and public participation in the Nicosia region.

Stay tuned for updates!

We will soon introduce you to other partners and their contributions to this exciting project!
